Job Summary

The Coordinator of Peer Recitation Facilitator is a multi-year grant-funded position supported by the U.S. Department of Education’s First in the World (FITW) grant.

The position will report to the Principal Investigator and is responsible for recruiting, training, supervising and evaluating Peer Recitation Facilitators (students who will coach their peers in the African Diaspora and the World course). The position will also serve as a liaison between the FITW Leadership Team and the Peer Recitation Facilitators. Using Peer Recitation Facilitators comprises the second phase of the project’s design.

The FITW grant helps institutions test and develop innovative strategies to improve student outcomes using qualitative and quantitative methods. The Spelman College grant is titled Metacognitive Awareness and Academic Performance Among Female African-American Undergraduate Students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate Peer Recitation Facilitators;
· Serve as a liaison between Peer Recitation Facilitators, FITW Leadership Team, and the ADW faculty;
· Research and communicate findings related to training Peer Recitation Facilitators;
· Communicate with various constituent groups (i.e., college administrators, Peer Recitation Facilitators, FITW Leadership Team, campus community) regarding Peer Recitation Facilitators;
· Monitor and evaluate Peer Recitation Facilitators for the African Diaspora and the World course;
· Organize schedules for Peer Recitation Facilitators (may include weekends and evenings);
· Work collaboratively with the FITW Leadership Team to develop, implement and evaluate training materials;
· Maintain a database on student performance;
· Support the FITW Leadership Team in its development of the roles and responsibilities of the Peer Recitation Facilitators.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Psychology, Education, or related areas. This position requires a minimum of five years of work experience in a liberal arts program, experience with an interdisciplinary approach to teaching, experience with academic support services, and knowledge of experimental design. Ability to interact and motivate students is critical.

Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills are required when presenting information and responding to questions from students, parents, employees, and the general public in one-on-one or group situations. This position also requires excellent organizational skills. Incumbent must be able to write business correspondence and procedure manuals plus compose memos, letters, and e-mails. Good proofreading skills are essential.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) which includes typing memos, correspondence, and e-mails. An individual must also have skills in creating mail merges, flyers, spreadsheets containing formulas, and forms. The incumbent must have experience using tutorial related software, internet navigation, and Microsoft Outlook/Lotus Notes.

Preferred Qualifications

Some knowledge of Diasporic studies is preferred.
