Job Title Painter
Job Summary

The position is responsible for implementing the preventative maintenance painting program of campus and other assigned facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Smooth surfaces using sandpaper, brushes, or steel wool, and removes old paint from surfaces using paint-remover, scraper, wire brush, or blowtorch to prepare surfaces for painting. Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty, plaster, or other filler;
• Selects premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors;
• Paints surfaces using brushes, spray gun, or paint rollers. Simulates wood grain, marble, brick, or tile effects. Applies paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers to create special effects;
• Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to perform tasks above ground level;
• Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and other structures;
• Provide exemplary customer service to both internal and external customers.
• Observe and report, any and all defects, deterioration, and wear and tear on facilities using the work order system procedure;
• Inspect all buildings on a routine basis and assure that deficiencies are corrected;
• Assist as required and cooperate with all trades people and custodians tin the performance of day to day duties and responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and a minimum of five years of painting experience are required.

Must be able to interact in a diverse community and able to adapt to changing situations.

Good oral and written communication skills required, with the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine correspondence. Ability to speak effectively when interacting with the students, faculty, staff, and the public.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to utilize e-mail systems such as Lotus Notes or Outlook.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Preferred Qualifications

Beginner level skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel) preferred.

Certifications, Licenses, Restrictions

Valid Georgia Driver’s License and a good driving record.

Physical Demands

Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
