Job Summary

A multi-year, grant-funded, Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available immediately in the Department of Biology at Spelman College, Atlanta, GA. As one of the most prestigious historically black colleges, Spelman College has a strong record of educating African-American women in STEM disciplines. This position is funded by a NSF RUI grant to Dr. Dongfang Wang with the goal of elucidating the gene regulatory mechanism underlying sugar allocation during Arabidopsis seed development. The position provides strong support for a qualified individual to conduct research and develop teaching and mentoring skills at a liberal arts college. Candidates interested in pursuing an academic career at undergraduate institutions are strongly encouraged to apply.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will conduct research, prepare manuscripts, and disseminate results at professional conferences. In addition, strong support mechanisms are in place for the Postdoctoral Research Associate to develop teaching capacity through teaching courses and mentoring undergraduate research. Travel support will be provided for the postdoctoral research associate to attend pedagogy development workshops and conferences.

Required Qualifications

Successful candidates should have a strong background in plant development, genetics, molecular biology, and sufficient bioinformatics skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills are also required. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in plant genetics, molecular biology, development, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required.
