Job Summary

Under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Wellness, in the role as a Personal Trainer, you will conduct one-on-one fitness evaluations and personal training sessions. Depending on the particular service requested, assist clients in reaching their specific health and fitness goals via consultation, exercise instruction, and development and implementation of individualized exercise programs. Service Sessions only; no sales required. Work Schedule — Tuesdays and Thursdays: 7 am – 1 pm and Wednesdays 7 am – 12 pm

This is a part-time, temporary position for the Fall Semester – approximately 15 weeks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform safe and thorough Fitness Assessments following ACSM guidelines.

• Assess risk stratification for potential personal training clients to ensure their safety in our programs.
• Assist clients in goal setting.

• Design and implement successful strength training and cardiovascular programs.

• Utilize MicroFit Software for Fitness Assessments.

• Interpret and review all Fitness Assessment results with clients.
• Provide accurate and safe exercise program guidelines.

• Motivate clients to perform at peak potential.
• Assist with staff development and training.

• Must work a minimum of 2 (two) free body fat testing events or other events per semester.

• Arrive 5 minutes prior to set time of session.

• Be proficient in various areas of strength training and cardiovascular exercise.

• Be prompt and professional at all times when working with client. Arrive early to prepare if necessary.
• Clean up after client. Do not leave dumbbells, weight plates, etc. lying around.

• Ensure the safety of your client at all times by enforcing proper technique.

• Use time management skills. It is crucial that you plan ahead so that your client’s needs are met.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required. Must be certified as a Personal Fitness Trainer. Minimum of 1-year Personal Training work experience is required.

Must have good communication skills to interact with department, students, faculty and staff of the college.

Must possess excellent interpersonal skills. Must possess the ability to prioritize effectively; must be able to interact in a diverse community and able to adapt to changing situations. Ability to work under pressure and high level of attention to detail. Must be able to read and interpret documents, safety rules and procedure manuals.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have beginner skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) which includes typing memos, letters, and e-mails.

Preferred Qualifications
Certifications, Licenses, Restrictions

Must be certified as a Personal Fitness Trainer from one of the following accredited programs; ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NASM, or NSCA.

Must have a current First Aid certification or equivalent.

Must have a current Adult CPR certification or equivalent.

Physical Demands

Must be able to run, smell, and climb or balance and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
